Tamur River (Grade 3-4) The Tamur River flows from the mighty Kanchenjunga mountain which is the third highest peak in the world. This trip combines fantastic whitewater and one of the most beautiful short treks in Nepal. It has spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga and Makalu as you traverse along a ridgeline over 2800 meters. Three days trekking and six days rafting/kayaking the river is a beautiful turquoise color and each day there are big volume rapids of class 3-4. Camping is on beautiful sandy beaches along the river and there is plenty of time for exploring and beach volleyball.
Airborne Adventure Nepal offers the Tamur Rafting/Kayaking trips from March to May and October to mid-December. Starting with an overnight bus journey to Basantapur this takes us to where we start our trekking journey into the river. The overall trip duration is three days trekking and six days’ whitewater rafting. After the river trip, you have the choice to travel back to Kathmandu with overnight bus again or there is the option to fly out of Biratnagar it’s just 35 minutes’ flight. This means you will be back in Kathmandu the same day you finish on the water. You will need to pay yourself for flight ticket but Airborne adventure Nepal can organize this in advance on your request. Alternatively, if you don’t have enough time to do a bus journey you can always fly both ways which means you can finish the Tamur whitewater rafting/ kayaking in 8 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu from October to mid-December, and you can finish in 9 days from March to May.
Day 1, we will meet at our kathmandu office after lunch to getting prepared for Tamur trekking and whitewater paddling trip. Your expedition leader will meet you in your hotel after lunch and we will depart for our over night bus journey in private bus at around between 3pm to 5pm. This journey will take approximately 17 hrs. overnight to Basantapur.
Day 2, Arrive at Basantapur and have lunch. Get organized for trekking leaving the following morning. Stay overnight in lodge in Basantapur.
Day 3, After breakfast begin trekking which will take you through beautiful woods and meadows with magnificent views of Kanchenjunga, Makalu and the Everest massif in the far distance. After approximately 6 to 7 hrs. walk arrive at Chauki or Holy lake Gupha Pokhari and camp. (elevation 2850 meters)
Day 4, Today you will continue trekking up to the ridge through picturesque rhododendron forest and enjoy the spectacular views. The path winds gently up and down through ancient moss covered trees and after approximately 6 to 7 hrs. you will reach the top of the ridge at 2980 meters. Set up camp near the village of Gorja (elevation 1925 meters).
Day 5, Trek for approximately 4 hrs. or so down to Dobhan which is the starting point of the white water kayaking rafting on the Tamur River. (elevation 640 meters). Pump up the rafts and get everything ready for the whitewater trip starting next day. Relax and camp overnight on the riverside beach.
Day 6-10 Whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Tamur River we will paddle 131 kms (82 miles).

Day 10, The last day of whitewater rafting on the Tamur will take you down to the confluence of the Tamur and Sun Kosi Rivers. Over 30 rapids of fun class 3 and 4 white-water makes this a fantastic day of paddling. Camp at the confluence of the Tamur and Sun Kosi Rivers.
Day 11, Paddle down to the take out of the Sun Kosi river stopping along the way at the Bharah temple. Lunch and then overnight bus trip back to Kathmandu approximately 15 hrs. arriving @ 9 am the following morning.
NB: There is the option here to take a 35-minute flight back to Kathmandu which will cost an additional US$ 150 or more depend on the seat availability for flight. This flight will depart from Biratnagar which is about an hours drive from the take out at Chatra, Plus you need pay for transportation to from take out to airport as well.
Day 12, You will be dropped off at your hotel and then can spend the rest of the day shopping and relaxing in Kathmandu. Enjoy a nice hot shower and get ready for celebration dinner with river crew and night out.
